Heidelberg, Germany

Wrapping up a two month deployment to the Middle East, my crew and I learned we would be stopping in Germany for thirty hours on our way back to the states. Unfortunately we would be staying in military lodging on Ramstein Air Force Base. After a very brief discussion, we agreed to split a rental car and cheap hotel room in an outlying city about an hour away. The lucky winner was Heidelberg, Germany, a popular tourist destination known for its peaceful and scenic nature. After all, what better way to experience a new country than by getting as far away from American influence as possible?

The drive over was peaceful and scenic in itself. We crossed the famous Rhine river, a fact I learned after crossing and therefore have no pictures of it. Oh well. Upon arrival, I also learned the city is a popular tourist destination in the summer - all the trees were bare and the temperature was a sweltering thirty-five degrees Fahrenheit.
